Base (first) coat is applied using Master Oil Natural, White or Color. Warning!!! Oil soaked rags must be properly stored and disposed of as they can self-ignite! Put all oil soaked rags into a bucket of water or a metal container with a lid. Preparation: * Prepare floor with WOCA Wood Cleaner, Wood Lye or Softwood Lye and allow to completely dry before applying Master Oil or Master Color Oil. * Use a piece of cardboard to rest tools and wet pads on. Never rest wet pads or naps on bare wood. * Do not walk on the wet oil with sneakers, put plastic booties or shopping bags over your shoes. * Use painter’s blue tape with the orange core to protect door frames, stair spindles and base moldings. * Shake the oil well before and during use. When using color oil, stir and shake well before and during use. * Finish corners, along walls and door frames by hand using small pieces of red and white pads. Application: * Choose your starting area and pour oil into a paint tray. Spread the oil with a 3/8” nap paint roller and extension pole. Roll the oil as if painting the floor. Continue to spread oil until you coat 200-250 sq.ft.. Let oil sit for 20-30 minutes to absorb into the floor, adding more oil if dry spots appear. When finished, rest your roller in the paint tray or on the cardboard. * With a red Norton (or similar colorfast) pad under a 175 rpm buffer, wet buff the oiled area slowly for several minutes, as this forces more oil into open pores. Buff until floor is completely saturated with oil, which means that some excess oil must be visible on the surface when finished. Shut off the buffer in the wet area, remove the wet pad and place it on a piece of cardboard. (For an exceptionally smooth surface and slightly higher sheen, place two WOCA Patina Disks opposite each other under the red pad.) * With a squeegee, pull all of the oil off of the treated area and onto the next work area. By hand or with a floor buffer, remove all excess oil using rags. Wipe along walls, corners and door frames, even if no oil residue is visible. If you have beveled planks or cracks between planks, wipe these also if you see excess oil. * Place a white Norton (or similar) pad under the buffer. Immediately after removing excess oil from the work area, polish the oiled floor. Make at least two slow passes over the area. Wipe up any oil spots that you see while polishing. When finished, the oiled area should have a silky appearance and no oil residue on top of the floor. If you walk on the oiled area after polishing, buff away your foot prints. * Repeat the process until floor is completed. After finishing a room, inspect the floor carefully. If necessary, polish the entire floor once more with a clean white pad. * If you must stop the oiling process, pick a logical place to stop. Tape off along a floor joint before oiling and take care to protect the immediate unfinished floor area with plastic. After oil has dried, reverse the tape seam, tape and protect the oiled floor before finishing the rest of the floor. * When using Master Oil Natural or White, allow the oil to dry completely before applying the top coat. When applying Color Oil allow 20-24 hours before appying the top coat. High humidity and cool temperatures may increase the drying time. * Coverage: 110-200 sq.ft./liter, depending o wood species.
